Rockwell's unique freezer for Covid vaccine
ROCKWELL Industries, a refrigerator company, has launched world’s first unique freezer ‘Chillermill’ specially developed for Covid vaccine distribution and storage. The freezer is powered by hybrid (solar and wind) energy.

Hyderabad: ROCKWELL Industries, a refrigerator company, has launched world's first unique freezer 'Chillermill' specially developed for Covid vaccine distribution and storage. The freezer is powered by hybrid (solar and wind) energy.
The special freezer will support all the Covid vaccines in the market, as it is designed to work at different storage temperatures, which are, between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius and it can handle the extreme temperature of -40 degrees Celsius. Freezer's hybrid renewable system comprises Savonius vertical axis wind turbines, along with a solar module that enables to run 24/7 on the batteries. The entire system is certified by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER)
The hybrid freezer also used for storing other vaccines, lifesaving medicines at the desired temperature.
It can store 100 to 300 litres and is available in the range of Rs 40,000 to Rs 1,00,000. The freezer and its whole system will be available in the range of Rs 1 to Rs 2.5 lakh. There are places, especially many rural hospitals and immunization sites that have to depend on the unreliable power supply.
"With our new renewable energy-supported freezers/chillers, we are in a position to help the health sector overcome these challenges. Technologically they meet the strictest biosafety, biomedical needs and solve the pain points in the cold chain," said Ashok Gupta, Managing Director, Rockwell Industries. Around 1,000 freezers per day will be manufactured at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Medchal, Hyderabad.
